Bio

Dr Anton Botha has 30 years of surgical experience. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBCh) degree through University of the Witwatersrand in 1991 and obtained his Fellowship of the College of Surgeons of South Africa (FCS(SA)) in 1997.

He also holds qualifications in laparoscopic and bariatric surgery from Strasbourg University. Dr Anton Botha is an instructor in minimally invasive surgery, advanced trauma life support and point-of-care ultrasound. He worked in private practice in Johannesburg prior to taking up the post as head of the Department of General Surgery at Addington Hospital from 2019 to 2025.

Dr Anton Botha continues to lecture and examine in the Department of Surgery at University of KwaZulu-Natal. He has presented and authored chapters at South African surgical meetings. His research interests include social and cultural factors affecting the adoption of bariatric surgery in South Africa as well as cost effective application of minimally invasive surgery techniques. Dr Anton Both is passionate about motorbikes, enjoys squash and has never been known to turn down a game of golf.
